Christopher Walken To Play The Emperor Of Known Universe In ‘Dune: Part 2’

Christopher Walken will sit the Golden Lion Throne of the Padishah Emperors.

Deadline reports the actor will play Emperor Shadam Corrino IV in Dune: Part 2 for director Denis Villeneuve. He completes the set of major characters to be introduced in the film. The other two, Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen and Princess Irulan Corrino, will played by Austin Butler and Florence Pugh, respectively. Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, and Josh Brolin will returns as their characters from part one. We also expect Stephen McKinley Henderson‘s Thufir Hawat will also return in some capacity as he has one more key scene in Frank Herbert‘s legendary sci-fi novel.

Indeed, splitting the book in half seemed to be the most critically and commercially successful choice in Villeneuve’s production. But it also meant these last three character would not be introduced until the second half. There is one other set of characters — Count Hasimir Fenring and his Bene Gessirit wife, Lady Margot, who have not been cast — but we’ll be quite surprised if either appear in the film. In terms of adapting the novel to a dramatic format like film, they are the easiest recurring characters to remove (Fenring did appear in the television miniseries, however). And though Fenring proved to be someone Paul never sees in his prescient vision, that shock may be better served as a chance to introduce Guild Navigator Edric, a character with a larger role in the sequel novel, Dune Messiah.

Of course, if Villeneuve can make Fenring and Lady Margot work, we’d be pleased to see it.

Dune: Part 2 is set for release on October 20th, 2023.
