John Woo’s ‘Silent Night’ Takes Aim At Blu-ray And 4K Steelbook Release

For years, Die Hard has been the action movie to watch over the holidays. But if you’re looking for a new title to add to your annual film festivities, Lionsgate and action guru John Woo have a pitch.

Silent Night, a largely dialogue-free exercise in Yuletide mayhem, is being made available later this month as both a 4K Ultra High Definition Steelbook, and standard Blu-ray.

Directed by Woo, Silent Night stars Joel Kinnaman as Brian Godlock, whose son is senselessly killed in a gang-related Christmas Eve shootout. One year later, after recovering from his own wounds — including the loss of his speaking voice — Godlock sets out to avenge his son’s death.

Woo made his name with such Hong Kong action classics as The Killer (1989) and Hard-Boiled (1992) before turning his sights towards Hollywood and helming Face/Off (1997) and Mission: Impossible II (2000). Silent Night is Woo’s first American film since 2003’s Paycheck. He’s joined by the producers of the John Wick franchise, so Silent Night plays a lot like one of those films, but with an even more extreme action-to-dialogue ratio.

It also stars Scott Mescudi, Harold Torres, and Catalina Sandino Moreno.

The releases’s bonus features are limited to the theatrical trailer, and a featurette which is hopefully more interesting than its uninspired title, “Actions Speak Louder Than Words.”

Silent Night will be available on 4K Ultra High Definition Steelbook, and Blu-ray on January 30 from Lionsgate for the suggested retail prices of $42.99, and $39.99, respectively.
