Patrick H Willems Does A Hilarious Deep Dive Into Zack Snyder’s Filmography

Youtuber Patrick H Willems is known for his blockbuster film criticisms and parodies. I recently discovered that he did an amazing video analyzing the filmography of Zack Snyder. Willems’ video essay really nails Snyder’s strengths and weaknesses as a filmmaker in a way few other Youtubers have been able to crack. No, Zack Snyder isn’t a cinematic messiah or an objectivist übermensch– he’s just a dude who thought Frank Frazetta and Heavy Metal magazine were cool as a teen and makes his films in that aesthetic.

I feel that Zack Snyder’s comic book films were much like the comics of the 1990s, flashy, spectacular, angsty and perfectly fun if you’re 15 (or 15 at heart). It’s like Snyder is chasing the high he felt at seeing Excalibur (1981) for the first time. I can safely say that Snyder has captured the epic spirit of Excalibur and passed it on to a new generation. There’s going to be some kid who sees Zack’s work at just the right time and grows up to create something badass as hell. I look forward to seeing the sci-fi mythology explored Snyder’s next epic Rebel Moon.

You can find more of Patrick H Willems work, including a breakdown of the filmography of Michael Bay on his official YouTube Channel.
