Commentary: ‘Home Alone’ + ‘Predator’ = The Perfect Crossover

Fans love obscure crossovers. These don’t necessarily have to be serious stories, but placing two characters from separate worlds into a single story is always fun to watch. It’s even more fun when these two characters exist in two different tones. For example, seeing an Alien xenomorph fight the Predator might be cool, but they are both sci-fi creations. It’s not that bizarre. Now, seeing a comic where the Predator interacts with Archie is something weird that may never happen again. In which case, having the Predator going up against Kevin McCallister from Home Alone might be the ultimate showdown.

This is highlighted greatly in the recent Predator film Prey. A lot of times, the Predator goes up against a strong foe that can fight back. But the main character of Prey, Naru (Amber Midthunder) wasn’t a formidable fighter. She was, however, a great hunter. So rather than try to face the Predator in open combat, she set a series of traps to lure the Predator in and take him down. Essentially, what she did was “Home Alone” the forest so the Predator would unknowingly fall victim.

And when it comes to setting up traps, it’s hard to top Kevin McCallister. Out of all the fun scenes in Home Alone, the last thirty minutes is where the film really makes a mark in pop culture. Kevin created an entire blueprint of his house and booby-trapped it from the basement all the way up to the attic. In a way, he was the ultimate hunter. So to see a Predator try and infiltrate Kevin’s home is an opportunity for a great story. Of course, it wouldn’t be that serious. It could probably exist in a fun comic rather than live action, especially since Macaulay Culkin is all grown-up now. But considering how different these two characters are, it would be a very entertaining match-up.

Prey is now streaming on Hulu. Home Alone is now streaming on Disney+.
