After the long period of strikes, the studios are restarting the business.
Sony jumped out of the gate with a few recent trailers. Piquing our interest is Madame Web. The film is the next stage in Sony’s attempt to build a universe of Spider-Man characters. Dakota Johnson stars as Cassandra Webb, a “paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities.” As the past comes back for her, she builds a bond to three women with seriously important destinies. Will she be able to guide them all to their futures in an atypical origin story?
Director SJ CLarkson is a good action director and the trailer has some interesting ideas — including the look of the adversary and the glimpses of a costumed future. But it remains to be seen if the film can truly start Sony’s elsewhere universe.
Madame Web comes to theaters in the near future.
