The First Clip From ‘Nimona’ Is A Magical Job Interview

We’ve been following the saga of Nimona for awhile. Based on ND Stevenson‘s graphic novel about a shapeshifting would-be villain, the film was in the works at 20th Century Fox’s Blue Sky Studio before 20th was absorbed into Disney and most of Blue Sky’s projects were cancelled. Nimona was said to be roughly 75% complete at the time of the shutdown.

Luckily, the project found a new home at Netflix and it will be coming to the service very soon. “How soon,” you might ask? Soon enough for Netflix to make the first clip from the film available on its social handles. In the clip, Nimona (Chloë Grace Moretz) invades Blackheart’s (Riz Ahmed) lair for a job interview to be his villainous sidekick. There’s just one problem: he never put up a job listing.

The animation seen here is exactly what we hoped for — particularly Nimona’s expressions toward the end of the clip. Netflix’s plot description sidelines Blackheart and Nimona’s quest to be bad, but this scene suggests the film will be far more faithful to the original graphic novel. And that’s a good thing.

Nimona debuts on Netflix June 30.
