Florence Pugh Is Looking To Become Princess Irulan In ‘Dune: Part 2’

Florence Pugh may soon give voice to innumerable books about Paul Atreides.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studio’s second Black Widow is eyeing a role in Dune: Part 2 as Princess Irulan, the daughter of Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV — another role yet to be cast — who, for reasons of plot we will not spoil, ends up spending much of her life writing about Paul (Timothée Chalamet) and what he made of Arrakis. THR notes Pugh is not yet at the point of negotiating a deal as she is waiting to see a new version of the script and weighing her options in regard to a Madonna biopic. This makes sense as the character, if faithful to the way it was laid out in Frank Herbert‘s novel, appears in only one scene and has no lines. In the book, it pays off a long-term joke as excerpts from Irulan’s books serve as epigraphs at the beginning of each chapter. Additionally, the character has more to do and even say in Dune Messiah, which will presumably serve as the source of director Denis Villeneuve‘s third and final Dune film. But we imagine Pugh will want more to do than stand there while her character’s father negotiates with Paul.

Besides Irulan and the Emperor, THR notes the production is also searching for someone to play Feyd-Rautha, Na-Baron to Stellan Skarsgard‘s Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. Both rumor and wishful thinking have suggested Barry Keoghan for the role, but this is also by no means a done deal.

Dune: Part 2 is set for release on October 20th, 2023
