Austin Butler To Play Feyd-Rautha In ‘Dune: Part 2’

The Na-Baron may finally have a face.

EW reports actor Austin Butler is in talks to play Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in Dune: Part 2. In the original Dune novel by Frank Herbert, Feyd is introduced as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen’s named heir, or “Na-Baron.” Fit, handsome, and conniving, Feyd is part of his uncle’s masterplan to sit a Harkonnen on the Imperial Throne. Of course, he first has to groom him to rule Arrakis after the Baron’s other nephew, Raban, drives the populace into utter submission.

Of course, Paul Atreides adoption into Fremen society puts a wrench into the Baron’s plans.

The character was famously played by Sting in the 1984 version of Dune, where he also famously wore a winged jock-strapped after the studio nixed a plan for him to emerge from a shower completely naked. We doubt Butler will find himself in a similar situation should he take the role. Feyd is also one of three parts the production is looking to cast soon. The others include Princes Irulan (Florence Pugh is currently circling the role) and the Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV.

Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgard, and a few others will also return for the second film, which covers the second half of Herbert’s initial Dune book. Director Denis Villeneuve also returns to the helm. Reports indicate he will stick around for a third film, presumably based on Dune Messiah.

Dune: Part 2 is set for release on October 20th, 2023
