The tale of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever continues …
According to The Hollywood Reporter, production on the Black Panther sequel will finally resume next week. As previously reported, filming ceased in mid-November as it could not continue without the participation of Letitia Wright. The actor sustained an injury in August of 2021 which saw her fly home to the UK to recuperate for much of last year. In the interim, shooting continued around her part, but by the waning days of the year, only her scenes remained.
With the actor recovered, a month-long shoot was scheduled to being again this week. Unfortunately, as THR reports, several positive COVID-19 test results postponed the plan.
Indeed, COVID-19 is constant companion in the film’s production history. In December 2020, Wright’s social media accounts linked to a video which made unsubstantiated claims regarding the coronavirus vaccines. Subsequent reports indicated she was holding out on getting vaccinated and expressed opinions on the matter similar to the ones in the video. She eventually called the allegations “completely untrue” and vowed to return to set as soon as she recovered from her injury. As it happens, the US requires all non-immigrant foreigners traveling to the US to be vaccinated, but it is still unclear if Wright submitted to the rule. Nevertheless, the site’s sources say the matter has been resolved.
Meanwhile, THR also reports that Winston Duke successfully renegotiated his contract as his role in the sequel was greatly expanded. What this means for the next Black Panther is anyone’s guess, though.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever arrives in theaters on November 11th.
