Will this be the first Youngblood character to finally hit the big screen?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spider-Man: Far From Home star Jake Gyllenhaal has signed up to star in an adaption of Rob Liefeld‘s Prophet. Joining him on this adventure is director Sam Hargrave. Based on the character Liefeld first introduced in 1992’s Youngblood #2, Gyllenhaal will play John Prophet, a supersoldier bio-engineered by a German program in the last days of World War II. In the film, currently being written by the Arrowverse’s Marc Guggenheim, Prophet awakens in 1965. According to the plot description, “the world has moved on without him, his daughter resents him, and KGB agents are after him to create super-soldiers from his blood.”
The film will be produced for Studio 8, with Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Adrian Askarieh, Brooklyn Weaver, and Liefeld listed as executive producers.
As with all recently announced projects, it’s unclear how quickly production might begin — indeed, the potential IATSE strike could sink this film — but with star and director in place, things could move quickly. If it gets to shooting, Prophet will be the first live action film or television series to emerge from Liefeld’s portfolio and his old Extreme Studios set-up. Many of his characters and titles have been optioned before, but this looks to be closest any of them have been to becoming a true feature film.
