James Gunn is currently the co-CEO and co-chairmen at DC Studios. However, he is receiving a proper sendoff from the MCU with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The film will conclude Gunn’s run with the cosmic superhero team, which began with the first installment back in 2014. You can catch the official synopsis below.
In Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere. But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life—a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.
Ahead of the movie’s official release, IMAX sponsored advanced fan screenings in 25 markets across the United States and Canada. Those fortunate enough to attend were able to watch the film in an IMAX theater a full week ahead of the public. The screening also included a special on-screen welcome from cast members Chris Pratt and Karen Gillan.
One could argue that being able to watch a highly anticipated blockbuster like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 before the vast majority of people is already a great experience, particularly since it was in IMAX. It certainly was especially feeding off of the energy and excitement from the audience.
But there was also a little giveaway so fans could leave the viewing with something tangible. It wasn’t anything big, but a colorful mini-poster with the current roster of the team. A nice little remembrance of a band of misfits that stole audiences’ hearts as they guarded the galaxy from dangerous threats.
