Directed by Alberto Vázquez (Bird Boy: The Forgotten Children) Unicorn Wars is a psychedelic anti-war film that pits a brainwashed group of teddy bears against a shadowy herd of unicorns. Vázquez’ influences range from animation legends like Miyazaki and Mary Blair to underground cartoonists like Charles Burns and Daniel Clowes with a dash of stylized action shows like Samurai Jack. Unicorn Wars is the kind of provocative hand drawn animation we need more of. I believe that Alberto Vázquez has the ability to become a cult director– audiences just need to give his insane vision a chance.
Unicorn Wars is now on demand and in select theaters.
