‘WandaVision’ Director Matt Shakman Reportedly Takes The Helm Of ‘Fantastic Four’

Then new Fantastic Four director has reportedly been chosen.

Deadline reports WandaVision‘s Matt Shakman is in early talks to helm the picture for Marvel Studios. Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s Jon Watts was originally announced to direct the film, but walked away from the project earlier this year citing a needed break after three back-to-back Spider-Man productions.

Plot details about the film remain scarce, of course. But Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently suggested the film will not be an origin story. Like Spider-Man, the team’s beginnings were already the crux of two feature films and as the movie will kick off Phase 6 of the ongoing Marvel Cinematic Universe, it may have some other introductions to make. Additionally, the cast of the film is also a mystery, although many believe John Krasinski‘s cameo as Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was a hat-tip to his eventual starring role in the Fantastic Four feature. That, of course, remains to be seen.

It is always possible that the cast will be one of Marvel Studios’ shock reveals at the D23 Expo in two weeks. The studio, and Feige, already surprised fans with their Comic-Con International: San Diego presentation last month, which detailed the next two phases and the collective name for the current storyline: the Multiverse Saga. Although mainly a slide show, it was much more info than anyone expected from the session. Indeed, Marvel often saves those sorts of announcements for D23 Expo or investor days, so we expect something like a Fantastic Four cast announcement to anchor their panel at the upcoming convention.

Fantastic Four, meanwhile, is set to debut on November 8th, 2024.
