SWAG Adventures: The SDCC 2022 Edition

It couldn’t be a San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) without picking up some SWAG. The event was as close to a pre-pandemic SDCC as it could be with plenty of opportunities to receive pop culture related items. Whether it was partaking in off-site activations such as the Severance experience, attending panels with giveaways, or passing by an exhibit floor vendor at the right time, you could add to your impressive haul.

There were plenty of comic related posters. At the BOOM! Studios Discover Yours panel, they handed out a few related to their current and future titles that included Grim, BRZRKR, Wynd, and Briar. Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur are coming off the page and into their own animated series on the Disney Channel so not only did attendees receive a sneak peek before it premieres in 2023, but also a nice souvenir.

One of the fun parties at SDCC was an evening with cocktails and comics hosted by Scholastic. They provided advanced review copies of their graphic novels released later this year. Some interesting titles include a pair of Marvel stories and a book from Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity winning cartoonist, Jamar Nicholas.

Pins seemed to be the most common giveaway with DC Comics handing out specific ones during their panels with five in total to be collected. I was only able to receive the Jurassic League one from the DC is for Everyone panel. The comiXology booth worked double promoting Scottober wave two with Barnstormers (not seen), Dudley Datson and the Forever Machine and Canary while also pushing Prime Video with Invincible, The Boys, and other pins. I also received some hard-to-find comics like exclusive variants handed out at the Marvel panels and Matt Kindt’s Bad Idea exclusive.

A pair of T-shirts from the latest MCU film and new The Walking Dead video game.

My only purchases were the convention exclusives for TMNT: The Last Ronin and 3 Worlds / 3 Moons’ Foundation, and a Ghost Rider commission from Joshua Cassara.

Here’s another look at the Severance activation giveaways.

Then my most prized item for this year’s SDCC. Took part in my first panel this year and I kept my name card.
