‘The Marvels’ And ‘Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania’ Swap Release Dates

Despite Marvel Studios’ long-range plans — indeed, studio president Kevin Feige recently told exhibitors as CinemaCon that he just attended a story conference to map out the next ten years of projects — hiccups and changes do occur. Early in the Phase 4 planning, Thor: Love and Thunder was meant to come out before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was also supposed to be an early entry before a executive misadventure saw director James Gunn fired and rehired after he signed on to make The Suicide Squad for the cross-town rival. And, sometimes, movies are just ready in a different sequence than planned.

This is seemingly the reason for The Marvels and Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania swapping their release dates. Per Fandago’s Erik Davis, the Ant-Man sequel will debut five months earlier than planned on February 17th, 2023. The Marvels, originally set for that February date, will premiere in Quantumania‘s original July 28th, 2023 date.

Considering Warner Bros. Pictures pushed Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Flash to 2023 due to a post-production scheduling issue, it is possible The Marvels is moving for the same reason. There is also the possibility that a story point motivated the change. Quantumania will see Jonathan Majors debut as Kang the Conqueror — the variant of He Who Remains (also Majors) that Loki (Tom Hiddleston) was warned about at the tail end of his Disney+ series. Whatever the reason, fans can look forward to Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) quipping against the villain sooner than expected.
