‘Ms. Marvel: Beyond the Limit’ #1 is a fun chapter in Kamala’s history

Since her debut, Kamala Khan has consistently been a fan favorite character at Marvel. What drew so many readers to her is that she was just like them and in Kamala, they see a piece of themselves reflected. She’s down-to-earth and oddly realistic even in a world with superheroes and radioactive spiders. Ms. Marvel: Beyond the Limit #1 definitely understands the appeal of a character who is very relatable to her fans.

The comic mostly focuses on Kamala visiting her cousin, Razia. One of the best things about Kamala’s lore is the fact that she actually has a family on panel and interacts with them quite often. The relationship she has with her family is actually a good one –not strained or abusive or anything. And that’s one thing that’s always made Kamala’s story so unique and refreshing in the world of superhero comics–her family is present, they are a positive influence on her, and they matter in her stories.

Marvel Comics

There’s not much substance to this comic, no big reveals or anything. But, it’s okay because at the end of the day, it’s a fun read. It feels authentically Ms. Marvel and at the end of the day, that’s all I can really ask for. Samira Ahmed seems to really understand what made this character so popular to readers and Andres Genolet’s pencils feel like the perfect choice for this title. His art is light, it’s fun, and I couldn’t think of a better artist for a title like this.
