Patty Jenkins’ ‘Star Wars: Rogue Squadron’ film delayed indefinitely

On Monday, Borys Kit of the Hollywood Reporter exclusively revealed that Patty Jenkins’ upcoming Star Wars: Rogue Squadron movie has been temporarily moved off Disney’s production schedule. The film was set to begin filming next year in preparation for a release in December of 2023.

According to Kit’s report, producers and filmmakers decided that Jenkins’ packed 2022 schedule would not allow work on the film to move forward as planned.

It should be noted that this does not mean the movie is canceled. Excitement for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron has been high ever since the film was officially announced back in December of 2020 — especially when it was revealed that Jenkins would be directing. Wonder Woman: 1984 might have been a dud, but there’s still no doubt that Jenkins has a brilliant eye for action sequences. Watching her take on a Star Wars dogfighting movie should be a real treat.

Unfortunately, that looks unlikely to happen any time before 2024. It also appears that Disney’s break from Star Wars theatrical releases after 2019’s Rise of Skywalker will continue a bit longer than expected.
