Over the weekend, AMC released a new teaser for The Walking Dead‘s second portion of its super-sized final season. The eight episode batch will premiere on February 20, 2022 with early access for AMC+ subscribers beginning February 13.
Despite being less than 30 seconds, we still get some tantalizing looks at what’s to come. For starters, Alexandria is still in very rough shape — especially after the storm we saw the town getting battered by in the final episode.
We also see that Judith survived getting trapped in the basement (as expected) and that Daryl, Gabriel, Maggie, and Negan made it back from Meridian. I didn’t spot Elijah anywhere, but still hold out hope that he’s okay.
Perhaps the teaser’s most interesting scene is our best look yet at Commonwealth Governor Pamela Milton, who is portrayed via a perfect casting choice by Laila Robbins. There’s also a strong implication that Commonwealth soldiers will be making a not-so-friendly visit to Alexandria and that Leah’s Reapers will become even more of a threat than they were under Pope.
Whatever ends up happening, however, The Walking Dead has been much better in this final season than we’ve seen in a long time. Let’s hope that trend continues when it returns next year.
