The Sleepers awaken?
The above trailer for March’s Dune: Part Two is very pointed in its approach. As far as it is concerned, this is the tale of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya). It centers their emerging love against the backdrop of interstellar conflict and new threats like Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen (Austin Butler) and the Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV (Christopher Walken). But beyond the glimpses of the battles to come and the various instances in which Paul and Chani profess their undying comittment to one another is something else: the narrow path through which Paul foresees a victory against their many enemies. Readers of Frank Herbert‘s novel series know where that path leads and with director Denis Villeneuve reportedly finishing the script for a third Dune film, it appears that slim road of victory will be something both Golden and terrible. Will it ultimately test Paul and Chani’s devotion to each other?
But that’s a thought for another horizon. In the meantime, Dune: Part Two arrives in theaters March 1st to conclude the first great tale in the Dune saga.
