Ryan Reynolds And Hugh Jackman Explain Wolverine’s ‘Deadpool 3’ Return … Sort Of

The Deadpool 3 hype machine has begun.

Yesterday, star and producer Ryan Reynolds ignited the film’s pre-release marketing campaign by revealing Hugh Jackman is returning as Wolverine “one last time” during Deadpool’s introduction to the MCU. Today, both stars sat down to explain the how of it. Well … sort of.

As seen in the video above, Deadpool 3 will take place four or five years before Logan, Jackman’s previous Wolverine swansong. Beyond that, though, the audio cuts to Wham’s “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” so all the “juicy” details are lost. Of course, the whole thing is a put-on in keeping with Reynolds penchant for goofy gimmicks and stunts in support of all of his movies and the Deadpool series in particular.

That said, the inclusion of Jackman’s Wolverine suggests the film may also center on the incursion teased at the end of Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. Or, at least, we see that as a possibility because no character from a different Marvel universe could be more disruptive than Wade Wilson. Also, some are speculating Jackman will return at least one more time during Avengers: Secret Wars.

The film will be directed by Shawn Levy, who previously worked with Reynolds on The Adam Project and Free Guy. He also worked with Jackman on Real Steel.

Deadpool 3 is slated for release on September 6, 2024.
