Marvel Studios has found its Avengers: The Kang Dynasty chronicler.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, writer Jeff Loveness will tackle the script for the studio and director Destin Daniel Cretton. The fifth Avengers films will be the first of a two-part Avengers adventure wrapping up “The Multiverse Saga” — the overall story arc of Phases 4, 5, and 6.
Clearly, Loveness knows something about the studio’s plans for the saga as he also wrote Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. That film, due out in February, will introduce Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), the variant of He Who Remains (also Majors) we believe is the one Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) were warned about in the Loki Season 1 finale. Additionally, a clip from Quantumania shown at the D23 Expo last Saturday saw Kang confused when confronted by Scott Lang (Paul Rudd). When Ant-Man proudly announces he is an Avengers, Kang immediately shoots back, “Haven’t I killed you before?” To us, that suggests Kang is a Multiversal wanderer and not native to the main Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Specific details about The Kang Dynasty are, of course, under wraps, but one can assume it will see Kang reaching his ultimate goal. Will that mean establishing himself as the undisputed king of the Mutliverse? Probably. But as the character hasn’t really stated a goal yet — beyond pressing Scott into service to steal something he claims was stolen from him — it is hard to say what he ultimate aim really is. Although, in the hopes that this saga will be different from the previous one, maybe he’s looking to be admired by as many people as possible.
Additionally, the only cast member we can presume at this time is Majors. Although, a selection of recently introduced heroes and those who survived the Infinity Saga are likely guesses.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty opens on May 2nd, 2025.
