Yes, the new Garfield film is still happening.
Deadline reports actors Ving Rhames, Hannah Waddingham, Nicholas Hoult, and Cecily Strong have joined the cast of the upcoming Jim Davis comic strip adaptation. Chris Pratt is set to voice the lazy, lasagna-loving cat while Samuel L. Jackson lends his voice to Vic, Garfield’s father. The film comes from director Mark Dindal, writer David Reynolds and producers John Cohen, Steven P. Wegner, Broderick Johnson, Andrew Kosove, Namit Malhotra, and Tom Jacomb.
Plot details are still light, with the film only described as following the cynical cat’s interactions with his owner, Jon, and fellow house pet Odie. We’re also presuming the film has nothing to do with the previous two live-action Garfield outings. Additionally, it is unclear who the new cast members will play, but with decades of Garfield strips to work from, there are plenty of characters to populate the film.
Garfield is set to debut on February 16th, 2024.
