John Stewart Takes Center Stage In ‘Green Lantern: Beware My Power’ Trailer

Although Green Lantern John Stewart was a fixture of the DC Animated Universe in programs like Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, he’s been underutilized in recent years as competing media opportunities for the Green Lanterns and a desire to re-establish Hal Jordan in animation sidelined him. But that’s about to change as John will be the star of the upcoming DC Universe Animated film, Green Lantern: Beware My Power. As glimpsed in the trailer above, the film offers the him a new beginning.

In this telling of events, John (Aldis Hodge) is a recently discharged Marine sniper at a crossroads in his life which only becomes more complicated when the power and responsibility of a Green Lantern ring seeks him out. And though untrained in this form of combat, he soon finds himself in battle with the foes of the Corps. With the aid of a light-hearted Green Arrow (Jimmi Simpson), Adam Strange (Brian Bloom), and Hawkgirl (Jamie Gray Hyder), he must journey into the heart of the Rann/Thanagar war and somehow succeed where all other Lanterns have failed. The cast also includes Ike Amadi, Mara Junot, Jason J. Lewis, and Rick D. Wasserman, among other voice talents. Jeff Wamester directs from a script by John Semper and Ernie Altbacker.

The disc and digital release of the film will come with a featurette called “John Stewart: The Power and the Glory” — a look back at the character’s fifty year run as a Green Lantern across comics and animation. Hodge and various writers and artist involved in keeping the character alive share their thoughts on his pop culture legacy.

Green Lantern: Beware My Power comes to disc and digital home video platforms on July 26th.
