Bill Skarsgard To (Maybe) Play The Crow

Please excuse our skepticism, but this involves The Crow and news posted on April 1st.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bill Skarsgard has agreed to star in the latest iteration of The Crow. The original comic book by James O’Barr told the story of a man who comes back from the dead to avenge his murder and the murder of his fiancee. The gritty and gothy comic was the inspiration for Alex Proyas‘s 1994 film, The Crow, which was mired in its own tragedy when star Brandon Lee was killed after a gun using blanks misfired and discharged material to lethal effect. A combination of Lee’s story and Proyas’s direction led The Crow to be a modest hit, which continued with sequels and a television show featuring other characters becoming the Crow. In the years since the franchise declined following 2005’s The Crow: Wicked Prayer, attempts have been made to reboot it with Luke Evans, Bradley Cooper, and Jason Momoa all set to star in a new Crow film at various times.

The latest iteration, with Ghost in the Shell director Rupert Sanders aboard to helm with a script from King Richard‘s Zach Baylin, goes back to the beginning with Skarsgard playing original Crow Eric Draven. Crow film and TV series stalwart Edward R. Pressman is once again back to produce. Malcolm Gray will join him in that capacity.

And while this still doesn’t feel quite real, THR claims the project is eyeing a June start date, which would be impressive considering the other attempts in the last 15 years to tell this story once again.

The Crow is not yet scheduled for release, but we wish it well … even if we’re still a bit skeptical about it.
