New Masaaki Yuasa ‘Inu-Oh’ Film Drops Trailer

Masaaki Yuasa and Science Saru released a trailer for their latest film Inu-Oh. Based on the novel by Hideo Furukawa, Inu-Oh takes place in the 14th century in Japan, and revolves around “Sarugaku” performances. Sarugaku translates to “monkey music” and the performances are like outdoor musical circuses. I’ve seen most of Masaaki Yuasa’s anime and in my view his best works are adaptations. Even though the story takes places in ancient Japan audiences can expect some modern flourishes and themes that speak to us today. Seeing as Yuasa announced his retirement back in 2020 this could very well be his last film. Let’s hope he goes out on a high note!

Inu-Oh will be distributed by GKids this year.
