‘Batgirl’ Adds Three To Cast

With Batgirl now in production, more details are starting to emerge.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actors Rebecca Front, Corey Johnson, and Ethan Kai have joined the cast in undisclosed roles. The film stars Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon as it charts the character’s journey from eager Gotham City Police recruit to masked vigilante. J.K. Simmons returns as Police Commissioner Jim Gordon — a role he first played in both versions of Justice League — as does Micheal Keaton as Batman. Brendan Fraser will also star as the villain, which reports indicate will be Firefly.

The film, which is part of DC Films’ plan to produce content for HBO Max, comes from Ms. Marvel directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah and Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson. Of course, it is still possible the film may become a theatrical release. Blue Beetle was also initially developed as a HBO Max original, but recently moved to Warner Bros. Pictures theatrical slate. Consequently, the presumed 2022 release of Batgirl is up for debate.

In the meantime, feel free to speculate about the new castmembers. As it’s unclear how large their roles are, they could be anything from GCPD staff to Burnside residents. Well, presuming we even get to Burnside in this film.

Curiously, though, Barbara has a supporting cast of friends and romantic interests who could populate the film. And yet, none of the new additions (except possible Kai) fit the age range for those parts. Indeed, we find it extremely odd that Barbara’s (former) roommate Alyssa has not be cast or even mentioned.

Batgirl is not yet scheduled for release.
