On Tuesday, StarWars.com continued their Bring Home the Bounty campaign with a pair of Vintage Collection toy reveals for The Book of Boba Fett. Both will be available for preorder on Wednesday at 1:00 PM EST.
If you prefer super articulated figures in 3.75″ scale (like I do), then you’re going to absolutely love these. In addition to not being exclusive at any one retailer, they’re beautiful plastic recreations of two awesome characters. Unfortunately, one of them has a price point that’s a load of poodoo.
We’ll get to that issue in a bit. Let’s stay positive for a moment and kick things off with Boba’s badass enforcer.
Fennec Shand
Fennec Shand finally gets her long awaited single carded entry into the Vintage Collection. The facial portrait is good, the sculpt is great, and the accessories are cool (especially the removable helmet). The soft goods will also allow her to easily get into some dynamic sniping poses.
This fantastic toy is expected to hit toy shelves in Fall 2022 and will retail for reasonable price of $13.99.
Boba Fett World Building Set
First off, this is a beautiful figure. In addition to the great facial portrait and sculpt, Boba Fett comes packed with lots of accessories.
But do those accessories justify this figure retailing for almost double ($26.49) what Fennec Shand does?
Even the “deluxe” Vintage Collection packs from last week only cost $20.00. The Maldo Kries set also cost $26.49, but at least you got some ice spiders and Grogu along with Din Djarin.
Maybe the upcharge is simply Hasbro taking advantage of a popular character and charging us Boba Fett tax. Or perhaps we’re footing the bill for all the tooling costs and profits they lost of the failed Rancor HasLab campaign.
All that being said…good lord does this figure look great.
I’m going to level with y’all for a moment. Despite all my railing against Hasbro ripping us off with “deluxe” figures that shouldn’t carry a higher price point, I totally caved on the Black Series Boba Fett. I tried to justify the purchase by denying myself the Black Series Bib Fortuna, but in the end it just came down to me really wanting it.
With this figure, the last thing I want to do is encourage/confirm to Hasbro that they can continue stretching prices past the rate of inflation. But I also love this character–especially this version of him.
I guess like a lot of you, I’ll have a decision to make tomorrow at 1:00 PM EST. The set is expected to hit toy shelves Summer 2022 if you want to delay your gratification a bit.
