Will Poulter To Join ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3’ As Adam Warlock

Adam Warlock’s day is nearly here.

Deadline reports The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader star Will Poulter will play the long-teased character in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The film, intended to be the final part of director James Gunn‘s trilogy, will see the character introduced after being teased in the previous Guardians films — most prominently in one of Vol. 2‘s stinger scenes. He was also in contention to appear in Avengers: Infinity War, but cooler heads prevailed as that film was already stuffed with characters.

First appearing as “Him” in Fantastic Four #66, the character was created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, but would be greatly revised by Roy Thomas and Jim Starlin as Adam Warlock in subsequent years. He would go on to have a storied career in the Marvel cosmos as a messianic figure, an omega-class villain from the future, and as a female Goddess in at least one story. He is key to Starlin’s Infinity Gem stories among other tales of Marvel wild galaxy.

Curiously, despite the constant teasing of Warlock in the Guardians films, Gunn has been quick to say there was no guarantee the character would ever show up. Indeed, this seemed even more in doubt when Gunn was briefly fired from the production after a bad faith incident a couple years back exposed some bad jokes the director owned up to prior to starting work on the first Guardians film. His dismissal led to Vol. 3 shifting further down the Marvel calendar and Warner Bros. Pictures using the opportunity to bring him on board The Suicide Squad.

Beyond Poulter, the film will see the return of the surviving Guardians as they continue adventuring across the galaxy in the wake of Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set for release on May 5th, 2023
