In a press release on Tuesday, AMC Networks announced they will be releasing yet another Walking Dead series. Tales of the Walking Dead will be a six episode anthology featuring stories from the perspective of both new and established characters within the Walking Dead universe.

We first heard about the idea for Tales from the Walking Dead a little over a year ago, but this is our first confirmation that it’s actually happening. The series will go into production later this year and premiere in summer of 2022. If the initial six episode season is successful, one can assume it will join Fear the Walking Dead, the untitled Carol/Daryl spinoff, and the upcoming trilogy of films focusing on Rick Grimes.
When Tales from the Walking Dead premieres next year, the original Walking Dead series will still be in the middle of its supersized final season.
Look, all snark aside, this actually sounds kind of interesting — especially since this season of The Walking Dead is shaping up to be the best one we’ve had a very long time. Also, an anthology focusing on various characters in the franchise sounds a heck of a lot better than yet another show in a moderately different setting.
It’s also worth noting that arguably best episode of The Walking Dead we’ve ever seen was the one that focused on Negan. That type of magic will be hard to recreate, but the template might be enough to produce something worth watching
